THE SHAMEN

A piece I did a few weeks ago as a folio piece/ gift for my sis on her birthday. THE SHAMEN by Matthew Haydn Jeanes. I wanted to test myself to paint the skin cracks and lines WITHOUT resorting to fine lining with a brush. I approached it by masking out the lighter skin tones, then gradually getting darker (masking again) and getting darker until nothing was left but the craggy lines of the skin. After I had removed the masking fluid, I then over painted with lighter toned washes. THEN I had to contend with the beard and the light. Not my photo but a great mission and Nichola loved her gift.

Framing ‘My Heart’s Geisha’ at Yellowmoon Galleries

My painting for my (late) Mum – MY HEART’S GEISHA is now framed and in pride of place with the figure herself. The doll meant so much to her, I feel proud to have (I think) done it justice.
