I am extremely proud to announce that my painting, La Cocina Ventana (The Kitchen Window) has been selected as a contender for Best Still Life in Artists & Illustrators Magazine 2012.
My piece has been chosen out of 4,000 entries (Over several categories) and has now made the top 5 for best Still Life piece of the year.
It then goes into a vote for best Artist/Piece of the year across the full line of categories and i will find out any further news on the 9th November.. But TOP 5! I’m really proud.
Thank you to all those who voted for me.. I’ve never entered anything into competition before and it’s great result.

Pet portraits are always popular at this time of the year and here I add a new piece to my animal collection. Meggie was a beautiful dog and a real character. I hope I have done her justice.

WILLIAM TAI has been a great commission.
It’s a new subject to me with the art being a large piece taking bout a week to draw and paint. I haven’t painted too many boats before but I found it both daunting and exciting. The finished painting was very well received and now hangs on the proud owners wall, I also have a very worthy addition to my portfolio.
I hope you like it.

Teaching at Patchway College was a complete delight. It was a 10 week course subsidised by The Fusion Festival and went by all too quickly. Great students made for an interesting and varied course.

As part of my 10 week Art Class at Patchway Community College I taught a week of Life Drawing where my dad was a willing (and cheap) model. This was a sketch drawn to illustrate that line work can be simple, it’s what you leave out that can make a drawing work.

Through a mix of storytelling and art, we encouraged the children from eight schools in Patchway and the surrounding areas to invent ‘windy characters’, personifications of the wind, with wonderfully vivid results. The eight stories in this book were each grown from seeds planted by the pupils themselves. They have then been interpreted by Martin and Matt to form ’The Gathering of the Winds’.

Matt Jeanes and Martin Maudsley have been teaching Illustration and story telling/writing to pupils at eight schools in Patchway as part of the Fusion Festival project.
The Project has been organized by Sherrie Humphrey’s at Patchway Community College and is part of the Olympics ‘Gathering of the Winds’ initiative. The stories and illustrations from all of the pupils will influence both Matt and Martin to illustrate and write a book based on the project and will form part of the Gatering of the Winds event at Patchway College on July 13th 2012. The book will be printed and circulated to all of the local schools and to the classes involved.
